Day-Crosser: Illegal Immigration to the USA

2:53 PM

The Dept. of Homeland Security arrests many people and deports them to their respective country yearly, but is it possible to deport all the undocumented immigrants? Can’t we find a better solution to solve this problem without affecting them? The United States of America is made of different people, nationalities and cultures. It is also known as a melting pot. If we analyze the history of this country, most people migrated here in different eras. Starting around 1600, Europeans settled on the East coast, and later Africans were brought here as slaves. When the country started to be more developed and more advanced, the flow of immigrants increased. Now, many people want to migrate here to fulfill the American dream. Many people who are educated and have money came here legally, but many people who can’t afford money to enter legally find an illegal way to enter the USA. In 2011 the estimated number of undocumented immigrants in the US was around 11.5 million. Undocumented immigrants population grew by 27% between 2000 and 2009. U.S must have an open door policy for immigration.

The first reason to support open door immigration policy is that many people do not want to leave their country, however when it’s hard for them to survive due to political cause, civil war or weather conditions, they will try to find the way to leave no matter how hard it is to leave their relatives, community, and friends. America is one of the countries that always talks about democracy and people’s rights. It should allow those poor fellows to enter the US. It may
be too dangerous to deport them to their country because they may get killed if the country is suffering from wars. Sending them back is basically sending them to their death. It’s so hard and stressful to leave the place where they are born and grew up. Most people who are migrating are from poor back ground. They know how hard it is to survive with poverty. They don’t want their kids suffering from poverty. People from poor third world countries want to move to the developed countries where they can find a much more comfortable and easy life. Companies and factories in developed nations pay more money than in poor countries. It’s human nature to be attracted to more money. We are never satisfied with what we have so, they want to do hard work to get paid more.
Another benefit of immigrants is that when they work here, they build our country’s economy. People who are working illegally in the USA are paying taxes to the government indirectly. For example, they buy food items, grocery items, clothes and many more stuff that they need. When they buy them, they pay a certain amount of tax to the government. They do jobs - earn money and spend here which helps to uplift the economic standards of the country too. Many Americans have said they take American jobs and people are not getting a job which is not true. However, studies have shown that most immigrants work at minimum wage, low end jobs other people would rather not take. Letting immigrants enter the country could improve relationship between countries. If they enter here, then they should not be deported because it is also a waste of money. The tax that we are paying that is used to deport them could be used to build schools, buildings etc. If they're here, they're here; they are paying taxes to the government like the rest of the Americans. Why send them back if they are doing jobs like janitors, gardeners, farmers, garbage cleaners, cleaners, nannies, textile mill workers that normally American people wouldn’t do at all? They are a huge part of the economy of this country. They are not here to do crime or to harm this nation; they just want a better life here.
Last but not the least; when illegal parents have kids, their kids get good education and jobs here. They will be another big pillar for the country’s economy and future. When they are provided with good education, then it’s one of the big parts of the country’s economy.

According to a new study by Johns Hopkins University, immigrant children who came to the U.S. before they were teens do better in school than native-born children. Furthermore, Professor of Sociology at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Lingxin Hao, says “Some people are pessimistic about the fact that almost a quarter of our schoolchildren are children of immigrants, but I think it is actually pretty good, since they are doing better.” Studies and research show that there is a bright future of labor forces in this country from immigrants. Another good finding is foreign-born immigrant children do better in STEM fields like math and science than normal American kids. Moreover, Dr. Hao says, “Immigrants who come to the U.S. are self-selective; they overcome difficulties to create a better life, and foreign-born immigrant parents transmit this motivation, values and expectations to their children.” She explains more children absorb these expectations and their actions demonstrate “Mom and Dad made all this sacrifice for me, so I need to do my best to make them happy.”
In conclusion, the US is made of up different nationalities, cultures and immigrants. We should have an open door policy for immigration because there are more benefits for undocumented immigrants and our country, too. Now, legal immigrants play a vital role during election. They want to know the plan and policy of the parties regarding immigration. For example, last year President Obama got more votes from immigrants because he was supporting an open door policy for immigration, and he won the election, too. All immigrants will make our
economy strong; they will share their ideas and knowledge with others. Allow them legally to be part of our country, so that they will also feel proud to be here.
